Introduction to the process of plastic color matching and coloring
Plastic color matching can be achieved by directly adding color powder to resin or masterbatch methods. After directly mixing the color powder with plastic resin, it is sent to the next step of product molding process, which is short in process and low in cost, but has poor working environment, coloring power, coloring uniformity and quality stability.
The masterbatch method is a method of preparing colorants, carrier resins, dispersants, and other additives into granules with a certain concentration of colorants. When the product is formed, a certain amount of masterbatch is added according to the coloring requirements to make the product contain the required amount of colorants and meet the coloring requirements.
Masterbatches can be classified according to the resin to be colored, such as ABS masterbatch, PC masterbatch, PP masterbatch, etc; It can also be classified according to the coloring resin and process, including injection molding, blown film, and extrusion grade masterbatch. Due to the pre-treatment of pigments, color masterbatch has high coloring power, reduced dosage, stable quality, convenient transportation, storage, and use, and greatly reduces environmental pollution.
Dispersants for plastic color matching eliminate surface air by wetting and penetrating pigments, dispersing aggregates and agglomerates into fine, stable, and uniform particles that no longer aggregate during processing. Low molecular weight polyethylene wax is commonly used as a dispersant, while EVA wax or oxidized polyethylene wax is used for organic pigments and carbon black that are difficult to disperse. There is a significant difference between the synthesis of low molecular weight polyethylene wax and the low molecular weight polyethylene wax produced by polyethylene cracking method.
Other additives include coupling agents, antioxidants, light stabilizers, anti-static agents, fillers, etc. The amount added depends on the requirements and variety, and is called multifunctional masterbatch. In addition, adding brighteners is beneficial for demolding molded products and improving the surface brightness of the products.
The performance indicators of color masterbatch in plastic color matching include color difference, whiteness, yellowness, yellowing degree, thermal stability, oxygen index, melt flow rate, etc. Of course, the fineness, migration, chemical resistance, and toxicity of pigments are also related to the performance of color masterbatch. Some indicators are very important in specialized applications, such as the filtration value (DF value) fineness of fiber grade masterbatch.
